City Planning
Planning Services
The Department works with community members and partner agencies to develop and carry out plans, projects, and studies that shape the future of Huntington. It supports the City of Huntington Plan Commission and manages many of its daily administrative tasks. Department staff also collaborates with other City departments to coordinate growth and development opportunities.
In partnership with the Plan Commission, the Department oversees the development and implementation of the City's Comprehensive Plan—a key document that guides long-term growth and informs many City initiatives and projects.
Land Use Planning
Land use planning aims to enhance the well-being of residents and the community by creating convenient, equitable, efficient, and attractive environments for current and future generations. This process balances current conditions, public input, design, and feasibility to develop a shared community vision.
The planning process sets goals and public policies, which are applied through zoning and development tools. These policies help ensure the needs of the entire community are considered, not just individual interests.
Our Planning Team
To support the future of our community, the Department includes trained planning professionals. Staff stay current with emerging trends through continuing education and membership in professional organizations such as the American Planning Association (APA) and the Indiana Planning Association (IPA).
