Employee Support


Huntington County Human Resources supports all County departments with regards to employee benefits, activities, discipline, hiring, and other needs as identified.
 
Support available to County Employees is as follows:
  • Employee insurance programs: Including health, disability, life and AD&D, as well as medical and dependent care reimbursement accounts and employee assistance program.
  • Employees benefits: Discuss issues through meetings, memos, letters and the County's web site; answers questions and resolves problems on a one-on-one basis. Recommends changes to employee benefits programs; performs research as necessary to develop written recommendations and assist decision makers.
  • Annual open enrollment process: Coordinates process, develops forms and employee communication materials; records incoming data and distributes information to payroll department and third party administrator.
  • Health Plan Fiscal Status: Monitors fiscal status of self-insured plans to ensure financial viability.
  • Wellness Programs: Works with wellness committee to develop and administer employee wellness program; schedules events, develops communications tools, coordinates employee participation and monitors vendor activity and reports.
  • New Employee Orientation: Guides new employees through necessary paperwork, handbook information and benefit enrollment.  Develops other training sessions as appropriate.
  • Employee Policies: Researches, develops and writes benefits policies and other employment policies.
  • Employee Files: Maintains paper and/or computer files on employees and employee benefits, including confidential medical files; generates reports, summaries and analyses as necessary and appropriate.
  • Job Descriptions: Maintains job description file; writes new job descriptions as positions are created, updates descriptions as positions change and performs periodic maintenance for all other positions.
  • Budget Process: Assists in development of Human Resources budget, and in other department budgets as they pertain to benefits costs.
  • Complaint Resolution: Responds to complaints and questions related to Human Resources policies, procedures and activities; provides information, researches problems and initiates problem resolution.
  • Regulation Compliance: Ensures compliance with applicable benefits laws, statutes, ordinances, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures; initiates actions necessary to correct deviations or violations.
  • Updated Knowledge/Awareness: Maintains comprehensive and current knowledge and awareness of applicable laws and regulations; maintains awareness of new trends and advances in the profession; reads professional literature; maintains professional affiliations; attends conferences and training sessions as appropriate and necessary.
