Training Simulation Prepares Local Emergency Teams for the Unexpected

20240314 LEPC Training Session

The Huntington County EMA hosted a Local Emergency Planning Committee tabletop exercise on Wednesday, March 14, 2024, at the Huntington City-Township Public Library to put the county’s Hazardous Materials Emergency Response Plan to the test.

The training session simulated a transportation incident and toxic spill to help local emergency teams practice their response, cleanup and communications actions.

Observing and participating in the EMA exercise were the Huntington Police and Fire Departments, Indiana State Police, Parkview Hospital, Public Safety Dispatch, the local Health Department and school corporation, the American Red Cross and local elected officials.

In the event of a real emergency like the one Wednesday’s exercise simulated, EMA personnel would notify the public using FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert & Warning System. Through IPAWS, emergency communications can be widely disseminated in real time using cellular phone geolocation data.

Thank you to everyone that was able to participate in this exercise.
