Recyclable vs. Non-Recyclable Materials

GFL Environmental, the city’s contract trash and curbside recycling service provider, has asked us to remind residents about acceptable materials that can be placed in your curbside recycling cart.

Full recycling loads can be rejected at the recycling center if they contain too much non-recyclable material. Therefore, placing non-recyclable materials in your recycling cart can lead to your bin being tagged and NOT being collected that week.

Please do your part and place ONLY acceptable recycling materials in your curbside recycling cart. Food and beverage waste should be rinsed off any acceptable recycling materials.

When in doubt throw it out.

Items that CAN be put in your curbside recycling cart include:

  • Household plastics Nos. 1-7.
  • Glass bottles.
  • Aluminum cans.
  • Aluminum foil
  • Cereal Boxes.
  • Cardboard boxes.
  • Magazines.
  • Mail.
  • Paper.
  • Paperboard.
  • Phonebooks.
  • Steel cans.

Items that CANNOT be put in your curbside recycling cart include:

  • Greasy pizza boxes.
  • Waxed cardboard.
  • Dog/cat beds.
  • Plastic bags.
  • Shredded paper.
  • Carpeting.
  • Pillows.
  • Wire hangers.
  • Window panes, mirrors, ceramics, Pyrex.
  • Organic material and food waste.
  • Electronic waste (i.e. batteries, cell phones, computers, etc.).
  • Paint and pesticides.
  • Aerosol cans.
  • Oil and cleaners.
  • Hazardous waste.

Holiday Schedule Adjustments

GFL shares observance of six city holidays will alter your regular trash and recycling collection day in 2024.

These holidays are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, the Fourth of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Collection services will be delayed by one day during the above holiday weeks, beginning on the date of the holiday.

The trash and recycling collection schedule will not change on any other city-observed holidays.
