HUNTINGTON Last week, Huntington’s Board of Public Works approved a cooperative grant agreement that will oversee the next steps in addressing the H.K. Porter site in conjunction with our local, state and federal partners. Backed by a $991,000 EPA Brownfields Cleanup Grant, the City will make application for state blight clearance grant funds for the planned demolition to maximize local fund leverage.

The City is also in the process of issuing requests for qualifications to select an environmental engineering firm to manage the EPA grant, hold public outreach meetings and design the demolition specifications as the City aims to demolish the site’s remaining structures by the end of 2025.

In addition, the EPA has recently finished topsoil replacement at 11 nearby residential properties and final abatement of known on-site soil contaminants. The City of Huntington thanks all of its project partners for their assistance in remediating the site and their ongoing role in creating a community plan for its future reuse.
