HUNTINGTON – The City of Huntington accepted a nearly $500,000 Indiana Department of Transportation Community Crossings grant on Friday that will allow the City to rebuild Division Street in 2024.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb, INDOT Commissioner Mike Smith, State Sen. Andy Zay and State Rep. Larissa Sweet were on hand at the Eagles Theater in Wabash to present the $496,507.60 award to Huntington Mayor Richard Strick and Director of Public Works Adam Cuttriss.

Mayor Strick said Friday that the Community Crossings grant will allow the City to rebuild Division “the right way” while addressing longstanding soil and subsurface issues.

“Community Crossings grants allow us to bring our state tax dollars back home to Huntington and put them to work right here where they belong,” Mayor Strick said. “I’m glad to let Huntington residents know that this grant allows us to immediately move forward on bidding the complete reconstruction of Division Street, with construction work occurring in 2024.”

Friday’s grant award will cover approximately 25 percent of the Division Street project’s $2 million estimated cost.

Across both rounds of Community Crossings grant announcements this year, the City of Huntington received the maximum state amount of $1 million in matching funds to invest in local streets and roads.
