City Secures OCRA Grant for Neighborhood Water Infrastructure Updates

 20230901 Home Place Addition

HUNTINGTON – The City of Huntington announced today that it has received a $600,000 Community Development Block Grant from the Office of Community and Rural Affairs for a south side neighborhood water infrastructure improvement project.

The City will address flooding issues in the Home Place Addition by upgrading the stormwater utility for residents living in the area of Cottage Avenue, Jessup Street and Park Street.

The stormwater system will be separated from the sanitary sewer and a new storm sewer network will be constructed. A detention pond will be added between Park Street and Etna Avenue. Roadways within the project area will be reconstructed and upgraded with new curbs and gutters, drainage inlets and a sidewalk.

The work has a total estimated cost of about $3.8 million. Construction will be scheduled in 2024 after the project is bid out and a contractor is selected.

“The completion of this project within the Home Place Addition will bring much needed improvements to the water, sewer and storm sewer systems that have been longstanding issues for residents in this area,” said Adam Cuttriss, director of engineering services for the City of Huntington.
