HUNTINGTON – Four new recruits took an oath of office Monday afternoon at the Huntington City Building to begin serving as Huntington Police officers.

In a difficult season for recruitment for departments across the country, HPD continues to attract high-quality officers to serve with integrity and respect under the leadership of Police Chief Cory Boxell, Assistant Chief Chris McCutcheon and Administrative Captain Andy Ellet.

“With the swearing in of these four men, this will get our staff (of sworn officers) to thirty-five,” Chief Boxell said. “This leaves us just one short of our allotment of 36.”

The four sworn in on Monday are Joseph Lee, Aaron Carson, Brent Wiseley and Adam Smith.

Patrolman Lee grew up in Wabash, Ind., and graduated from Wabash High School. He served five years of active duty with the United States Air Force before relocating to Huntington with his wife, Katie, and their children. In addition to managing a small local business, Lee also donates his time with the Huntington Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Patrolman Carson grew up in Mulberry, Ind., and graduated from Clinton Prairie High School in nearby Frankfort. He studied criminal justice at Purdue University-Fort Wayne before joining the Allen County Sheriff’s Department as a confinement officer. He also has worked as a dispatcher for the City of Fort Wayne. Carson’s wife, Katelyn, and their two children accompanied him for Monday’s ceremony.

Patrolman Wiseley grew up in southern Michigan and graduated from Hillsdale High School. He moved to Huntington in 2018 to attend Huntington University, graduating in 2021 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. After college, he worked as a confinement officer at the Huntington County Jail and an investigator with the Michigan Department of Child Services. Wiseley speaks fluent Spanish.

Patrolman Adam Smith was born and raised in Huntington County, graduating from Huntington North High School in 2019. He follows an uncle and brother-in-law into law enforcement service.
