The City of Huntington invites and encourages residents to participate in conversations about local matters, and we respectfully request that your online comments and posts remain courteous and civil. Engagement in discussion, debate, and disagreement is welcomed in healthy public discourse.

At the same time, some comments may be removed or disabled from a social media post due to violations of the city’s long-standing social media policy. This policy can be found both on the city website and within the “Intro” section of our Facebook page, and we encourage you to take a minute to read it here: https://www.huntington.in.us/egov/documents/1490298185_54343.pdf.

The city’s social media coordinator/moderator applied this policy to the comments section on a recent post on our Facebook page after several comments, some of which contained personal insults and character attacks, veered from the post’s topic. The moderator used his discretion to hide all comments that had been made, regardless of the opinion or viewpoint stated, and disable future comments on the particular post.

Following any application of this policy, it is our standard operating procedure to review what occurred and ways to refine or improve the policy if necessary.

We appreciate those who have reached out to us about this matter, and we thank you for doing your part to make Huntington a great place to live, work and play.
