HUNTINGTON – Huntington Fire celebrated the promotions of three longtime department members on Monday during a ceremony at the Huntington City Building.
Duane Naab, a 35-year member of the department, has been promoted to Assistant Chief. He had previously held the rank of Lieutenant since 2018.
“Duane has always been dedicated to the department and has earned the respect and loyalty of the firefighters he works with,” Fire Chief Tony Johnson said. “He is someone that I often lean on for advice and will continue to do so in the new role.”
Deep roots in the fire service are a part of what drives Duane’s dedication. His father, Dave Naab, served more than 30 years with the Huntington Fire Department. Like his son now, Dave reached the rank of Assistant Chief before retiring.
Derek Holzinger and Zach Kindler, both of whom have 18 years of firefighting experience, have been promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
“From the start of their careers, I have worked with both Derek and Zach,” Chief Johnson said. “I have been able to watch these two grow and take on added responsibility. I know this will be an easy transition for both – they already possess the qualities that it takes to be a good leader.”
Zach’s contributions to the department have included training new firefighters to pass on his experience. He has also stepped up to become involved with the department’s truck committee and hiring board.
Derek oversees important daily tasks such as maintaining the department’s self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) equipment and keeping it in proper working condition. SCBA equipment is used by firefighters to breathe clean air while fighting structure fires.
