November 13-17 is ‘We Believe in Youth Week’

HUNTINGTON – A joint proclamation by the City and County of Huntington on Monday afternoon put pen to paper to declare our community’s belief in its youth.
Mayor Richard Strick and County Commissioner Rob Miller signed the proclamation, which states that “we collectively commit ourselves to mentoring, guiding and instructing the next generations so that they can realize their full potential as future leaders of Huntington and other communities they may one day call home.”
Monday’s proclamation ceremony aligns with a Youth for Christ of Northern Indiana campaign to encourage, support and inspire today’s children and teens. Through the city-county declaration, the week of November 13-17 is officially recognized as “We Believe in Youth Week.”
“Children and teens who have trusted adults who are invested in their lives have more opportunities to develop confidence in their unique strengths, skills and abilities,” the joint proclamation reads.
Liz Irick, YFC’s campus life director for Huntington North High School, said the We Believe in Youth campaign aims to see adults from the community reach out to the young people in their lives and share with them why they believe in them.
“This can be done through a post, a letter, a card, grabbing coffee with a young person, making a video and so much more,” she said. “We hope that young people in our community can feel loved, cared for and believed in.”
