Sidewalk Replacement Program Open for 2024

2024 Sidewalk Replacement Program

HUNTINGTON – The City of Huntington continues to work alongside property owners to improve accessibility and walkability in our neighborhoods. A cost-sharing program that will pay up to half the cost of replacing existing sidewalks is now accepting applications for the 2024 construction season.

The 50/50 Sidewalk Replacement Program can be used to address sidewalks with defects such as cracks or trip hazards. Sidewalks running parallel to a street, including sections that cross a driveway, are eligible.

If the sidewalk is on a corner, the city will pay the full cost of installing the required ADA-compliant curb ramp.

Applications will be accepted for as long as the weather is good for construction, typically until November. Residents and businesses making application will need to obtain quotes from a contractor of their choice as part of the review process before receiving approval.

The program seeks to improve neighborhood walkability by bringing more sidewalks into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Common problems the program looks to address include steep slopes and trip hazards larger than a quarter-inch.
