Mayor Richard Strick
Huntington Mayor Richard Strick is currently serving his second term, having been re-elected in 2023. Previously, Mayor Strick represented District 3 on the Huntington Common Council and is a founding member of the Drovertown Neighborhood Alliance.
Mayor Strick first moved to Huntington from Michigan in 2001 to attend Huntington College (now Huntington University). He has called Huntington home since.
Mayor Strick holds both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree, with a focus on cross-cultural studies, Bible, and pastoral studies. He served as an associate director on the national staff of Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC). Prior to that, he worked 11 years as an associate pastor and senior pastor at St. Peter’s First Community Church.
In addition to his professional roles, Mayor Strick has served on the Boards of Directors for Pathfinder Services, Love In the Name of Christ of Huntington County, and the LaFontaine Center. He also spent five years working with the Huntington North wrestling team.
When not in meetings, you can often find him fixing up his house in Drovertown or sharing his front porch with neighbors.
Roles & Responsibilities
The Mayor is the chief executive officer of the city and is responsible for all operations of the city departments. The mayor appoints department heads, board and commission members, and presides over the Common Council and Board of Public Works and Safety meetings.
Additional responsibilities include: enforcing city ordinances and state statutes; ensuring efficient governance; filling city office vacancies when required; and signing all bonds, deeds, and contracts. The mayor also has authority to approve or veto ordinances, orders, and resolutions passed by the Common Council.
Term of Office
The Mayor serves a four-year term with no limit on the number of terms. Candidates must reside within the city and have lived in Huntington for at least one year prior to election.
Richard Strick is the 30th mayor since Huntington’s incorporation as a city in 1873.
