City Ordinance to Address Free-Roaming Cats

Posted Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

City Council took a first step toward addressing free-roaming cats within city limits by updating the Code of Ordinances to establish a Trap-Neuter-Return program.

At their own expense, community members are now permitted to humanely trap a free-roaming cat for the sole purpose of spaying or neutering, vaccinating for rabies and eartipping under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian before returning the cat to its original location.

Next, city officials will continue working with the Huntington County Humane Society to develop a communitywide program and explore funding sources for City Council’s consideration.
