CDC Expands Booster Eligibility

Posted Friday, October 22, 2021.

A CDC announcement Thursday afternoon expanded COVID-19 booster shot eligibility to all adults who got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and millions of fully vaccinated Moderna recipients.

Anyone who received the J&J vaccine is eligible for a booster two months after they were first vaccinated. People 65 and older and adults who are immunocompromised or live and work in high-exposure settings are eligible six months after their second dose of Moderna or Pfizer.

The new CDC recommendations allow vaccines to be mixed and matched. For example, someone who received Pfizer or J&J can opt for a Moderna booster.

According to news reports, FDA and CDC panels may also be nearing a decision on vaccines for kids age 5 to 11.
