Hoosiers 60+ Eligible for COVID-19 Vaccine

Posted Tuesday, February 23, 2021

Indiana residents 60 and older are now eligible to register for the COVID-19 vaccine, the Indiana Department of Health announced Tuesday morning.

Residents 60+, healthcare workers and first responders can schedule a vaccination appointment at ourshot.in.gov or by calling 2-1-1. Local registration assistance is available from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday at (260) 356-2900.

The Huntington County Health Department administers the Moderna vaccine inside the gymnasium at Crestview Middle School, located at 1151 W. 500 N. in Huntington. Two doses 28 days apart are required.

It takes about 14 days after the second dose for a recipient's immune response to take full effect.

Individuals who have been fully vaccinated have strong protection against illness from COVID-19 but may still be able to spread the virus to others. The Indiana Department of Health recommends that masking and social distancing guidelines be followed until the vaccine is available to everyone.
