It’s as easy as 1 – 2 – 3

The City of Huntington is gearing up for another season of leaf collecting starting at the end of October. This year, thanks to new equipment and technological advances, disposing of leaves and other yard waste will be easier than ever.

“We have increased the efficiency of picking up the leaves,” says Bob Caley, superintendent of city services. This year, all leaf pickup can be accomplished with two workers and two Xtreme Vac trucks.

In order to take advantage of this free service, all you need to do is:

1.     Rake your leaves to the curb in front of your home.

2.     Keep all other yard waste, such as fallen limbs, grass clippings, and other debris, out of the leaves.

3.     Make sure not to rake leaves into the streets.

Pick up by zone

The city will pick up leaves throughout the city in the order of the five trash pickup zones. “We will start in Zone 1, which is the Monday route for trash pick up,” says Caley. “When we are done with Zone 1, we will move on to Zone 2, Tuesday’s route, and so on.”

One more thing

Please keep fallen leaves out of your gutters and storm sewers, as leaf buildup in these areas can create drainage issues if not properly tended. Thank you!
