Hope for Heroes

According to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger relief charity, one in every five food bank households contains a veteran. Hope for Heroes is a Community Harvest Food Bank program designed to help Veterans and military families in need. Program participants are eligible to receive twelve months of groceries supplied by the Community Cupboard pantry at Community Harvest Food Bank.

Each month, participants will choose 100 pounds of nutritious foods (enough to fill a large grocery cart) while they get back on their feet and regain stability. Community Harvest is proud to serve our heroes and has partnered with the Department of Veterans Affairs and other organizations that will refer veterans and military families in need of assistance.

Hope for Heroes FAQ

You do not need a referral to use the Hope for Heroes program. We will serve any Veteran, widowed spouse, or military family in need on a walk-in basis.

To sign up, simply bring your DD214 or military ID to the food bank during normal business hours, Monday through Friday. Our receptionist will enroll you in the program and you can receive your groceries the same day.

You will receive 100 pounds of food per visit, plus additional “free weight,” which includes produce, bread, and other available perishable items. This is approximately enough to fill a large grocery cart.

Yes! You will need to bring proof of spouse status and your spouse’s DD214 or ID.

The Hope for Heroes program provides a total of 12 visits per year. You can come as often as once per month, or you may use less often, as needed. If you are on the Hope for Heroes program, you are also welcome to attend any other public distributions, such as Farm Wagon or Saturday Helping Hands. These programs are open to anyone in need at any time, regardless of Veteran status.
