The Huntington County Humane Society, Furry Fix and the City of Huntington are partnering together to offer Huntington City residents a NEW program to have their cats spayed/neutered and vaccinated at a minimal out of pocket cost. This program is aimed to reduce the overpopulation within City limits, help keep our community's cats healthier and reduce the number of homeless cats that fill the shelter each year.

What is the cost?

If you select a "Cornerstone Clinic" appointment, you are responsible for transportation to/from their clinic in Urbana on the day of the appointment! You are also responsible for pre/post operative care. This option is only $15.

If you select a "Humane Fort Wayne" appointment, you are responsible for dropping off your cat(s) to the Huntington Co. Humane Society the day before the appointment and pickup the day after. Transportation to/from Humane Fort Wayne and pre/post operative care are provided by HCHS. This option is $25.

Both options include spay/neuter surgery and a rabies vaccination.

If you would like to add the FVRCCP vaccination, de-wormer or a microchip, you may add those at an additional cost at time of registration.

Where do I sign up?

Go to FurryFix.net.

Select an available date/appointment slot. Appointments are limited each month!

Complete all required information and provide payment.

You will get a confirmation email, as well as a call/text from our Community Cat Coordinator confirming the details regarding your upcoming appointment.

Does this apply to dogs?

At this time the program is limited to cats only; however, low-cost spay and neuter options are still available for dogs directly through Cornerstone Clinic (260-774-3322) and Humane Fort Wayne (260-420-7729)!

Why is this program specific to City residents?

The City of Huntington has a large volume of unowned and owned cats, many of which are not neutered, nor vaccinated. In 2022 the Huntington County Humane Society took in 479 cats just within City limits, and we know this is just the tip of the iceberg. We are estimating there are 2,000 to 3,000 unowned cats living within City limits and thousands more owned cats who could benefit from neutering and vaccinations. Our goal is to reduce the barriers that prevent our City residents from obtaining assistance in receiving these essential services for cats.

The City of Huntington and the Huntington County Humane Society have partnered on a targeted, multi-year effort to help tackle this issue in a humane manner that benefits both our two-legged and four-legged residents. In 2021, the City ordinances were amended to allow for residents to have "Community Cats" and to permit for "Trap-Neuter-Return" to take place. Additionally, we established a relationship with PubVet to offer a mobile feline spay/neuter clinic several times throughout the year. This new spay/neuter assistance program is simply the next step in helping to achieve our mission.

We are committed to learning from this program, will continue to work with veterinary partners around the region to expand our appointment offerings and will continue to work with our County partners to be in a position to offer this service outside of City limits in the future.
