HUNTINGTON – Two well-deserving veterans of the Huntington Police Department were promoted to higher ranks on Tuesday afternoon.

Ty Whitacre has been with HPD for seven years, including five years as a detective and the past year as detective sergeant. He was promoted Tuesday to second-shift captain.

Whitacre previously served five years of active duty in the U.S. Army, where he was a member of the military police and attained the rank of sergeant.

“Ty is extremely dedicated,” Huntington Police Chief Cory Boxell said. “I think we all know and understand that about him and what he does. He goes above and beyond and he leads by example.”

Whitacre has also served for five years on the Board of Directors for McKenzie’s Hope, a Huntington County child advocacy center.

Reece Lefever has been with HPD for five years, serving as the second shift officer-in-charge for the last year. He also acts as a field training officer and is an instructor in defensive tactics and Taser deployment. On Tuesday, he was promoted to third-shift sergeant.

Chief Boxell referred to Lefever as a department leader in Tuesday’s ceremony.

“He is very level-headed. He has a very calm demeanor,” Boxell said. “I’m very proud of him for all that he has done for our department.”
