HUNTINGTON – Two recently promoted veterans of the Huntington Police Department were recognized during a swearing-in ceremony Friday morning at the Huntington City Building.

Andy Ellet, a 20-year member of the department, earned a promotion to captain. He has previously held the ranks of patrolman, detective and sergeant in addition to his work as a school resource officer and K-9 handler. He has been involved with McKenzie’s Hope, the Huntington County Drug Court, 4-H Club and LaFontaine Saddle Club and worked as a youth sports coach.

During Friday’s ceremony, Huntington Police Chief Chad Hacker looked back on Ellet’s two-plus decades with the department, describing him as a reliable leader and trusted friend.

“He has been my co-worker for 20 years, but he has been my friend for closer to 35,” Chief Hacker said.

Eric Fluck is a seven-year member of the department. He has been promoted to sergeant, and Fluck previously held the ranks of patrolman and detective. He also has worked with McKenzie’s Hope and the Huntington County Drug Court and coaches youth soccer.

Chief Hacker described Fluck as a dedicated public servant who puts the community and the department’s needs first.

“Eric was a great detective and perfectly happy there, but when I approached him about a promotion to sergeant, he looked me in the eyes and said, ‘Whatever is best for the department,’” Chief Hacker said. “That’s the kind of person he is.”
