Recycling Drop-Off Locations
In addition to curbside recycling, Huntington Solid Waste District (SWMD) drop-off locations provide a second option for recycling many everyday household items. Residents may bring everyday items like glass, newspaper, plastics numbered 1 through 5, and broken-down cardboard boxes to the recycling dumpsters. Locations include:
  • Memorial Park Service Building - 1205 W. Park Drive, Huntington
  • Hazardous Materials Facility - 517 S. 300 W., Huntington
  • 450 Wabash St. - Andrews
  • Town Garage - 316 W. 2nd St., Warren

Fluorescent Bulb Program
The Huntington County SWMD accepts fluorescent bulbs for recycling. Residents and businesses may bring the bulbs to the Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) Facility on Wednesdays between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Staff will ensure proper handling, storage and processing of all hazardous components. The HAZMAT Facility is located next to the main landfill building at 517 S. 300 W., Huntington, IN 46750.

The fluorescent bulb program upgraded to new technology in 2016 that makes recycling of the bulbs safer for employees and for the environment. Proper storage and recycling of the bulbs keeps mercury out of the air and out of the groundwater.

Paint and Electronics, and Other Hazardous Items
The HAZMAT facility recycles many items in addition to fluorescent bulbs. Paint, electronics, and tires are acceptable for drop-off. The facility also recycles most types of batteries, with the exception of alkaline.

The facility accepts up to 12 passenger tires per year from residents at no charge in addition to e-waste (such as computers and televisions) and many hazardous household items. Click here for a list of items accepted at the HAZMAT facility.
