PROCLAMATION

September 18, 2025

WHEREAS, September is known globally as Suicide Prevention and Action Month for the purpose of raising the visibility of mental health resources and suicide prevention services; and

WHEREAS, the City of Huntington and its community partners share the goal of destigmatizing the conversation about mental health and connecting people with appropriate support services available in our community; and

WHEREAS, the City of Huntington publicly places its full support behind local educators and coaches, mental health professionals, law enforcement officers, public safety personnel and parents as partners in supporting our community and being present for one another in times of need; and

WHEREAS, each life lost to suicide has a direct impact on family, friends, co-workers, neighbors and community members; and

WHEREAS, we recognize that none of us gets through life’s struggles on our own, and the friendships and relationships we build with others in our community connect us to one another and help us through difficult periods of life; and

WHEREAS, we encourage all residents to communicate their appreciation for their family, friends and neighbors on a regular basis, and we acknowledge that a simple phone call, message, handshake or hug can be the kind gesture that helps someone realize that suicide is not the answer;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mayor Richard Strick, hereby proclaim the month of September 2025 to be National Suicide Prevention and Action Month in the City of Huntington, Indiana.
