Last October – aka “Oaktober” – Huntington planted 500 trees. This year, we’re gearing up to do it again!

More trees mean cleaner air, better stormwater management, more shade, cooler temperatures and energy savings.

City Forester Emily Hayes and Indiana University Climate Fellow Jordan Rogers are leading this year’s campaign. The first step is signing up if you’d like a free tree in the right-of-way near your yard: bit.ly/4vn5EhE.

Oaktober is funded through an American Forests Grant from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Because of grant requirements, not all addresses are eligible. However, everyone is encouraged to sign up, as additional tree opportunities may be available outside the grant program.

And there’s more to come. Stay tuned for details on our new “Root For Your Block” contest to help bring even more trees to Huntington neighborhoods.
