To ensure City Utilities’ continued ability to provide safe and reliable water, City Council has approved a gradual water rate increase in response to aging well fields and a critical need to replace the South Water Plant.

There will be a need to install a temporary sewage bypass pump this week at the Jefferson and Market intersection. This will impact downtown traffic between Tuesday and Friday, weather permitting.

The active worksites are on Tipton Street near the Oak, Poplar and Leopold intersections. Division Street has reopened to traffic.

This smaller-scale project allows us to avoid impacting downtown with the most disruptive parts of Long-Term Control Plan construction. Please follow marked detours and expect work to take about a month, weather permitting.
City offices will be closed on April 18 for Good Friday. GFL’s trash and recycling schedules will not be affected.
Following April 8's public hearing and a first reading of the proposed water rate ordinance, City Council voted to advance a plan to build a new South Water Plant. Next, there will be a second reading and final vote on April 29.
