Local law enforcement officers greet Patrolman Ignatius First with a handshake following his swearing-in ceremony.
Local law enforcement officers welcomed Ignatius 'Iggy' First to the Huntington Police Department on Monday, February 2, 2026.

HUNTINGTON – Ignatius “Iggy” First’s deeply held desire to help others led him to a career in law enforcement. That calling also runs in the family – his grandfather served as a police officer, helping shape First’s early respect for the profession.

“He told me that law enforcement has been a true calling for him throughout his life,” Huntington Police Chief Cory Boxell said. “Iggy said that he’s always wanted to be that person, to provide peace and hope for someone else.”

On February 2, First took the Oath of Office and was sworn into duty as a patrolman with the Huntington Police Department (HPD). He comes highly recommended by Chief Matt Daughtry of the Parkview Health Systems Police Department, where First served for the past three and a half years.

First is a Tier II graduate of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy (ILEA). He earned top academic awards during his time there, and the next step in his career with HPD will be returning to the ILEA for additional training and coursework.

First was born and raised in Danville, Illinois, and moved to Huntington with his parents in 2020. He attended Huntington University, where he studied criminal justice and played on the baseball team.

His wife, Morgen First, held the ceremonial Bible while First took the Oath of Office on Monday. The couple met at Huntington University, where Morgen completed a nursing degree. They were married this past August.
