HUNTINGTON – The Huntington Police Department’s newest hire brings a strong background in law enforcement to her new role.

Born and raised in Huntington, patrol officer recruit Brianna Pepper is a 2015 graduate of Huntington North High School. She said she has long aspired to work in law enforcement and most recently served as a jailer at the Huntington County Jail. During her seven years in that role, Pepper attained the rank of special deputy.

Pepper took the Oath of Office with HPD on Monday, December 15, during a ceremony at the Huntington City Building.

The rigorous application and interview process leading up to her swearing-in began in July. Police Chief Cory Boxell said that Pepper quickly distinguished herself as a top applicant.

“Her supervisors and co-workers (at the Huntington County Jail) all highly recommended Brianna,” Chief Boxell said. “She came with no less than six letters of recommendation – I don’t think I’ve ever had that many – many of which came from the Jail staff and the Sheriff’s Department.”

A key figure and role model in her life, Pepper’s grandfather, Jay Setser, held the ceremonial Bible as she completed the oath

Pepper will attend the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy beginning in January as she continues her training to serve as a Huntington patrol officer.
