Tipton Street repaving reached substantial completion in late November 2025. Crews have placed the final surface asphalt on all sections west of Jefferson Street and east of Byron Street.

Underground utility work tied to the City’s Long-Term Control Plan (LTCP) is still underway in the two blocks between Jefferson and Byron. Teams are installing the remaining sewer interceptor, completing its final tie-in at Byron, and connecting nearby homes to the new line. These steps must be finished before concrete and asphalt work can begin in this section.

As winter approaches, weather conditions and material availability may delay final restoration of this two-block area until early spring. We appreciate the community’s patience as crews work to complete the project safely and responsibly.

Why This Matters

Huntington’s century-old sewer system was originally built to overflow into local waterways during heavy rains in order to prevent backups. Today, state and federal mandates require communities to eliminate these overflows to keep untreated sewage out of rivers and streams. The LTCP is our plan to meet those standards and protect local water quality.

Project Scope

Completing the LTCP has been a multi-year process spanning several administrations and multiple phases, the first of which broke ground in 2012.

Projects 7 and 8 have been the most visible portions of the LTCP along Lafontaine, Tipton, and Division streets over the past two years. During this time, a new sewer interceptor has been installed from the treatment plant to the Division and Canfield intersection — a distance of more than two miles. Crews had to excavate trenches up to 30 feet deep through limestone and bedrock along the route to install the line, which significantly extended the project timeline.

As noted above, the substantial completion of Tipton Street’s reconstruction marks a major milestone in completing the LTCP.

We once again thank Huntington residents for their patience and support of this vital project!
