Omega III LLC completed demolition of the H.K. Porter building on Tuesday, November 25 – an important milestone years in the making. With the structure now down, crews will remain on-site to sort and haul away steel, brick and other debris. They’ll also finish cleaning the concrete slab, continuing to use measures that capture and properly dispose of all process water.

Additional subsurface testing by the EPA is the next step. Results from this work will guide decisions on how and when to remove the slab, what level of EPA involvement is required, and what future uses of the site may be appropriate. (The 2022 arson and structural deterioration left portions of the building too unstable for underground testing before demolition.)

There is still work ahead following decades of manufacturing activity at H.K. Porter. But completing demolition is a major accomplishment and a moment worth recognizing as we move into the next phase of environmental assessment and planning!
