Broadway Street Railroad Crossing Closed
This morning, Norfolk Southern closed the Broadway Street railroad crossing for repairs. The City was not involved in the decision or timing – we learned about the closure as it was happening. While Norfolk Southern has full jurisdiction over the crossing and the repairs are needed, we understand the frustration this unexpected closure may cause.
Why It’s a Challenge
Broadway Street had been serving as the primary detour route with Jefferson Street closed at the Tipton intersection, especially for semi traffic. With this closure, we know it complicates travel even further.
The Bright Side
We’re glad to see repairs being made to the crossing, which will improve safety and driving conditions once complete.
New Detour Info
Semi traffic will be rerouted by the railroad as follows:
- Northbound: Left on State, right on Condit, right on Sabine, back to Broadway.
- Southbound: Same route in reverse.
We know this construction season has been a tough one. The good news: Two major projects – on Division Street and Tipton Street – are nearing completion, with repaving scheduled to begin next week.
Thanks for your continued patience and understanding!
