On August 26, Huntington’s City Council approved two key projects aimed at strengthening the community’s future. After extensive planning, these decisions reflect a shared commitment to enhancing safety and revitalizing the city’s core.

The Huntington Fire Department is set to build a new station on Flaxmill Road, replacing the aging and cramped facility on Condit Street that has served the city for nearly five decades. The upgraded station will help improve emergency response times and provide a safer working environment for firefighters. A groundbreaking will be held on September 9, with foundation work planned to be finished before winter.

Council also threw its support behind a downtown revitalization initiative. Flint Creek Development LLC, a local nonprofit trust recently established, will spearhead efforts to acquire and renovate key downtown buildings, turning them into vibrant retail and living spaces. Flint Creek will collaborate with PAGO USA, whose successful redevelopment projects in Van Wert, Ohio, serve as a guiding example.

To back this initiative, the City has approved a $2 million loan, released in $500,000 increments, designed to attract additional private funding, grants and federal/state tax credits.

Together, these projects demonstrate Huntington’s dedication to creating a safer community and breathing new life into the heart of the city.
