H.K. Porter’s demolition will begin in the coming weeks after the Board of Public Works & Safety voted on July 21 to award the project to Illinois-based Omega III LLC.
At about $1.3 million, Omega submitted the lowest, most responsive and responsible bid among nine that were unsealed at the Board’s July 7 meeting. The City and Omega will work toward finalizing contract details prior to the Board’s next meeting on August 4, when the contract is expected to be presented for approval.
H.K. Porter is an abandoned brownfield site on Huntington’s east side. It had previously been a manufacturing site since the early 1900s. The City has addressed known contaminants at the site in multiple phases since acquiring the property in 2014.
A $991,000 EPA Brownfields grant will help pay for the upcoming demolition and site remediation. City funds will cover the remaining portion.
