Indiana Gov. Mike Braun held a ceremonial signing of Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 306 at Huntington University on Thursday, July 17. SEA 306 is now in effect in Indiana, benefitting Hoosier creatives in the film and media industry. The bill was authored by State Senators Andy Zay, Travis Holdman, and Kyle Walker.

Film Professor and Dean of the Arts Dr. Lance Clark said that this is a “big plus” for Indiana, and could aid in putting the Hoosier State on the map to compete with some of the regional states that already offer it.

SEA 306 offers tax incentives for filmmakers or creatives on projects of more than $250,000. Clark has been working with state legislators and other educators advocating for this bill for several years and is thrilled it has been signed by Gov. Braun.

Clark continued, “We had industry pros from all over the country that came to Indiana to work on a Screen Actors Guild feature film right here in northeast Indiana. Having the incentives of a transferable tax credit encourages those kinds of productions to take place because it allows you to have the advantage of a tax break on your project. That’s the whole benefit of this bill.”

Clark said that the university plans to apply for the tax credit, as the benefits start in 2026, and conversations have already started about their next feature film.
