H.K. Porter Demolition Update

Planning and preparation for the H.K. Porter demolition are nearly complete. On Wednesday, about two dozen representatives from potential environmental and demolition partners toured the site, a required step before submitting bids. The City will open those bids at the Board of Public Works & Safety meeting on July 7.

Once a contractor is selected next month, a 30- to 45-day period for bonding, insurance review and other pre-demolition steps will follow. This keeps the project on track for completion before winter — crucial because the selected wet demolition method requires temperatures well above freezing.

The selected contractor will determine the exact start date. It's too early to predict an exact end date, as progress will depend on site conditions. Safety will remain the top priority, especially regarding dust control due to past asbestos use and structural concerns following a 2022 arson.
