City News & Updates
Krauskopf, Kevin
To ensure City Utilities’ continued ability to provide safe and reliable water, City Council has approved a gradual water rate increase in response to aging well fields and a critical need to replace the South Water Plant, which was built in 1959 and is now 66 years old. Rate increases are never easy, and this decision was made carefully, with expert guidance and community input.
To ease the impact on families, the increase will be phased in over three years. In Phase 1, effective June 1, there will be an average increase of about $6.12/month based on average consumption of 535 cubic feet (4,000 gallons) of water.
These changes apply only to the water portion of your City Utilities bill (not to sewer, trash or recycling). Because utilities are billed one month behind, you’ll first see the change on bills due in August 2025.
Thank you for your understanding as we invest in and protect Huntington’s future.
