Hazardous Materials Facility

Huntington County has its own permanent Hazardous Materials Facility, located next to the City of Huntington Landfill. The HazMat Facility is open for residential use every Wednesday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Thursday by appointment, and the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of the month from 8 to 11:30 a.m. This service is provided at no charge to all Huntington County residents. Businesses and non-profits must be pre-approved and are accepted by appointment only. The following lists some of the more common materials accepted at the new facility:

  • Polyurethane

Batteries:

  • Automotive batteries
  • Motorcycle batteries
  • Cell phone batteries
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Rechargeable batteries

Others:

  • Pesticides/herbicides
  • Used antifreeze
  • Oxidizers
  • Poisons
  • Corrosives
  • Fluorescent bulbs


Many of these potentially hazardous wastes can be recycled or reused in some way, but most importantly, this service ensures that potentially dangerous wastes are treated in the proper manner to provide environmental safety and quality for all of Huntington County.
