Four Locations to Get Involved!

History & Purpose
First and foremost, everybody is welcome – including gardeners of all skill and experience levels!
These gardens are meant to benefit the community and neighborhoods where they are located. All are welcome to come tend the gardens, harvest them and take home produce to enjoy!
The gardens are made available to the community in partnership between the City of Huntington, United With Love and Huntington County Community Schools, which has generously allowed space at Kriegbaum Field for one of the gardens.
The community gardens first opened in 2025 with the goal of giving interested Huntington residents an option to grow their own vegetables and produce. You can also volunteer to help tend the gardens, allowing anyone interested to share in the gardens’ fresh produce.

FAQs
- How do the gardens work?
Each garden has designated hours that garden leads are present to guide the work that needs to be done. Join the Facebook page for the garden closest to you! - Who can use the gardens?
Huntington’s community gardens are open to everyone of all skill and experience levels. - Can I have a plot that’s just for me? Who can harvest?
These gardens are not divided into individual plots at this time, but that may be an option in the future if there is enough interest. For now, garden spaces are shared, and everyone can work and harvest. - How can I start?
Please join the Facebook page for the garden in your area, or reach out to Community Engagement Coordinator Christy Knecht at christina.knecht@huntington.in.us or (260) 356-1400 ext. 2003. - I'm new to gardening, can someone help me get started?
You can start by meeting the Garden Lead during designated hours. They will help you get started and oriented with the garden. If you'd like additional training, consider taking the Master Gardener course with the local Purdue Extension office. - Is there public water access?
We currently have public water access for gardeners at Elmwood Park, Laurie Park and Kriegbaum field. All gardens are heavily mulched to retain moisture for the plants to grow and thrive.
