Every Second Counts!

  • Every home should have working smoke detectors/alarms on all levels. The Red Cross recommends installing more than one type of smoke detector/alarm in your home for added safety.
  • Check the batteries in your smoke detectors monthly.
  • Change the batteries in your smoke detectors yearly, unless they have long-life batteries.
  • Replace smoke alarms every 10 years.
  • Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children.
  • Appliances should be plugged directly into wall outlets.
  • Never smoke in bed.
  • Curtains, dish towels, or anything that could catch fire should be kept at least three feet from heat source.
